I LONG to be with Soren. The hardest part of every day is leaving him
and Betsy and going to work. I want so
bad to be with him, to watch him grow, see him learn, teach him things,
challenge him to strengthen his body. He
is such a brightness. I love it when
Soren is playing with something and then he looks over and realizes I am
watching him. This morning he was
playing with the wet wipes on the floor and he looked over at me and didn’t
realize I was an animate obje ct until I blinked. Then, immediately he knew me and smiled, made
a soft noise of recognition with his smile and I echoed it back to him. He beamed.
I like to make Soren laugh. In fact his laugh is my favorite sound in the
world! How delighted I am when I find a
new way to draw that chuckle out of him, and how I will try it over and over
again to see if I can get that happiness to burst forth from him again. My heart JOYS in that sound!
How much more so God!
God loves me, does not leave me. As he is a relational God, in some sense I AM
his work. He wants desperately to be
with me—so much he gave his son, my brother, to draw me into himself. He wants to watch me grow, learn, wants to
teach me things, wants to challenge me, strengthen me in faith and body. I am a brightness to God. He looks forward to seeing me. How much God desires for me to look up from
my dogged work, to notice him looking upon me and for me to smile and communicate, sometimes as simply as a soft
sound and echo of recognition—we are safe in each other’s presence. And God, my Father, is fun!
Father loves it when I laugh. Especially when I am laughing at jokes he is
playing on me, how he is tickling me, teasing me. He searches for other ways to make me laugh,
to draw out of me that smile, that full-belly laugh I was known for as a little
boy. He longs to see happiness bursting
forth from me. His heart JOYS in my joy.
